Additionally, by only distributing 200ml water bottles on pre-set meal trays, the airline has reduced the bulk uplift of those bottles on every trip.

In addition, Air India now offers a water pour service from 1-litre water bottles and uses paper wrapping in place of plastic zip-lock bags for flatware.

The group has switched out plastic stirrers and straws with paper stirrers and wooden stirrers, respectively. Additionally, Air India has added biodegradable trash bags and reusable linen bags to its aircraft.

The airline also intends to soon provide paper cutlery to passengers travelling in economy class.
The inclusion of TaxiBot operations for the A320 fleet at the airports of Delhi and Bengaluru was also recently announced by Air India.

With this effort, Air India and KSU Aviation want to save up to 15,000 tonnes of jet fuel over the course of three years.

A semi-robotic device called a TaxiBot serves as an addition to an aeroplane’s nose landing gear.

Without using the aeroplane’s engines, it tows aircraft from the terminal gate to the taxi-out point and vice versa for the terminal gate taxi-in phase.

What do officials say?

The PTI said in the statement, that Air India is working towards the introduction of paper-based cutlery for people travelling in Economy Class in the near future, apart from this the airlines would also reduce the usage of single-use plastic on their aeroplanes.
