Amul’s managing director, RS Sodhi, was fired on Monday; Jayen Mehta has temporarily filled the post. For the past four years, Sodhi has had a contract extension.
Amul will soon have a new MD, according to Shankarsinh Rana, chairman of Gandhinagar Madhur Dairy, who confirmed the news.
At the board meeting of the farmers’ cooperative that runs the Amul brand, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the decision to fire Sodhi was made.
GCMMF’s COO is Mehta. Since June 2010, Sodhi had served as the MD of Amul.
Sodhi began his career as Senior Manager of Sales at Amul after receiving his MBA from the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA).
Sodhi received a five-year extension as Amul MD in 2017. According to Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in October 2022, Amul would combine with five other cooperative societies to establish a multi-state cooperative society (MSCS).
Mehta has spent the last 31 years working for Amul and is presently its chief operating officer (COO). He has previously held positions as the company’s general manager of marketing, group product manager, and brand manager.
About RS Sodhi:
The departing MD, Sodhi, began his career with Amul in 1982 as a senior sales executive. He worked there as its general manager (marketing) from 2000 to 2004, then in June 2010 he was promoted to become MD.
Mehta will reportedly take over as Amul’s temporary managing director with immediate effect. The GCMMF board reportedly made this decision today.
With its headquarters in Anand Town, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) markets its goods under the Amul brand. Since 2010, Sodhi has been the organization’s managing director. Sodhi graduated from IRMA, Anand, India’s first batch of students, and CTAE, Udaipur, India, where he earned his bachelor of engineering (agricultural) degree.
